Oasis Hospital and the Al Ain Sanayia Branch of Abu Dhabi Police Partnered Together on a Public Health Initiative

Oasis Hospital and the Al Ain Sanayia Branch of Abu Dhabi Police partnered together on March 17th forĀ a public health initiative educating police officers and employees of the dangers of high blood pressure and diabetes.

Community Police Event

Over 40 officers and support staff were screened for high blood pressure and diabetes at the Al Ain Sanayia Branch of the Abu Dhabi Police, including the Community Police. Dr. James Thompson, Head of Outpatient Clinics at Oasis Hospital and a supporting nurse used the blood pressure arm cuff and a simple finger prick to screen the police employees.

Dr. Thompson reminded the men and women that "a simple screening can detect a disease which could be life threatening". Blood pressure screening is important because high blood pressure can be a warning sign of more serious medical problems like heart attack, heart failure, stroke and kidney disease. Diabetes screening is crucial because if high blood sugar levels are caught early the disease is manageable through simple diet and exercise changes. Major Ali Yaser Al Ariani, the head of the Sanayia Branch of the Abu Dhabi Police, was the first to have his blood pressure and blood sugar tested.

He said, "We are happy to welcome Oasis Hospital into our facilities for health care initiatives, the screenings helped many employees find areas in their lives where they can make minor changes to improve their overall health. We look forward to working together with Oasis Hospital in the future."

The partnership between Oasis Hospital and the Abu Dhabi Police including the Community Police, is one of many ways in which the Oasis Hospital serves the local population.

Brooks Glett, Vice President of Public and Community Affairs at Oasis Hospital, notes, "We have been caring for the people in the Al Ain region for 50 years and we continue to tailor our care to the changing needs of the population. Hosting screenings at employer locations allows us to meet the community where they are most comfortable receiving care."
