Oasis Hospital Honored by World Health Care Congress

The World Health Care Congress (WHCC) announced yesterday that Oasis Hospital Al Ain, UAE is the recipient of the World Health Care Congress- Middle East 2010 Award.

The award recognizes a health care organization that has made a significant impact on the delivery of health care in the region. The WHCC's award focuses on recognizing recipients that demonstrate innovation, promote excellence and provide the highest quality of care.

Mr. David Printy, President and CEO of Oasis Hospital received the award yesterday at the World Health Care Congress - Middle East from Mr. Vidar Jorgenson, Chairman of the WHCC. Oasis Hospital opened in November 1960 at the invitation of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his brother Sheikh Shakhbut. Having experienced American medical care in Muscat and Bahrain, the rulers asked Drs. Pat and Marian Kennedy to open a similar hospital in Al Ain. At that time, the local population was declining in numbers. Infant mortality was 50% and maternal mortality was 35%. The local population suffered from many endemic diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, eye diseases and intestinal parasites. Today, Oasis Hospital is still serving the local population in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and has delivered over 90,000 babies in the past 50 years.
