His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the patron as Oasis Hospital hosted their 50th Anniversary Celebrations at the Al Ain Palace Museum on 10 November 2010.
Representing the Royal Family was Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Also in attendance were Dr Kathleen Kennedy Quadro and Nancy Kennedy, daughters of the hospital's founding doctors, as well as Dr Larry Liddle and his wife Marilyn who served at Oasis Hospital for 32 years. In addition, there were a number of local dignitaries including Dr Mohammed Mater Al Ka'abi, Minister of Islamic Affairs, members of the Community Police, the UAE Armed Forces, Oasis Hospital Advisory Board, embassy representatives, members of the UAE University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, prominent businessmen and women, and the Oasis Hospital leadership team.
Mr David Printy, Oasis Hospital President and CEO, expressed his delight during the program, saying "We are honored today to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of modern healthcare in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The founding of Oasis Hospital was not only important to the improved health of the Al Ain community, it set a standard for the development of quality healthcare for the entire Emirate of Abu Dhabi. In addition, Oasis Hospital became a foundational element for the economic and cultural growth of the city of Al Ain.
Mr Printy went on to say, "On behalf of the entire staff of Oasis Hospital, I must share that we are humbled and honored to continue the legacy of Oasis Hospital that was established by Drs Pat and Marian Kennedy. It was these two doctors who established our mission of delivering healthcare with the love and compassion of Jesus."
One of the program's highlights was the launch of a special edition of The Oasis, the memoirs of the late Gertrude Dyck. Mr Printy presented His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed with the first ever Arabic edition of the book. The newly reprinted special 50th Anniversary edition of The Oasis is done in commemoration of the hospital's 50 years of service. Ms Dyck, remembered by the community as "Dr Latifa", worked as a nurse at Oasis Hospital for 38 years. The Oasis is filled with rare photos and personal experiences of the author, telling the amazing story of the growth and development of Al Ain from 1960 to the present. The Oasis is now available to the public at Oasis Hospital in English and Arabic.
His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed also presented Mr Printy with a photograph signed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Written on the photograph are words from Sheikh Mohammed expressing his sincere appreciation to Oasis Hospital for the excellent medical facility that continues to serve the Al Ain and surrounding communities.
Mr David Printy conveyed his sincere gratitude to the people at Abu Dhabi Culture and Heritage for offering the use of the Al Ain Palace Museum. He also thanked the Museum and Military History Center, part of the UAE Armed Forces, for their excellent historical military exhibition erected on site for the occasion.
