Oasis Hospital Sponsors Iraqi Girl's Surgery

A 13-year-old Iraqi girl with a severe clubfoot deformity, finally has a chance to live a normal teenager's life. Her dream to run and play like her friends may now become reality because of an orthopedic surgery sponsored by Oasis Hospital.

Warshin Najet Ali was born with a left clubfoot - a disorder that has caused her to limp all her life. Due to years without treatment, her left foot began to point backwards, making it impossible for her to walk more than 100 meters without pain, and preventing her from taking part in any sports. To complicate matters, Warshin's left leg is 4 centimeters shorter than her right leg, a condition that has aggravated her limp.

On March 20th, 2010, Dr Marc Sinclair of Little Wings Foundation - a Dubai-based charity, and Dr Alan Norrish, Oasis Hospital's Orthopedic Surgeon, performed a corrective operation on Warshin.

During the procedure, they turned her left foot around so that it now points forward like her right foot. They also operated on her right leg to slow down its growth, in order for her left leg to catch up in length.

Warshin's foot before surgeryThe operation was made possible only because of many months of hard work by several organizations and individuals. These include personnel at the Abu Dhabi Naturalization and Residency Department who helped Warshin's family obtain a three-month visit visa for medical purposes, Dr Marc Sinclair of Little Wings Foundation, as well as numerous staff at Oasis Hospital. The costs of the surgery and accommodation have been covered by Oasis Hospital.

Dr Norrish says, "I do hope the operation will give Warshin a chance to pursue her dreams of studying, going to college, getting married and having children - to lead a normal life as most kids her age would."

Warshin is well on the road to recovery - her foot is healing well, and the casts will come off the second week of May. After some physiotherapy at the hospital she will be able to walk without a limp, and more importantly without pain.

Dubai TV also ran a brief story on Warshin: http://www.dubaimedia.ae/Media/view/62188 her story begins at the 19:30 mark.
