Home Women's Health Kennedy Center for New Life

Doctors Pat and Marian Kennedy were givers - they offered compassion, friendship, and medical service to the Emirati people at a time when modern healthcare was not available in Abu Dhabi. Through their hard work, leadership, and loving spirit, the Kennedys were able to build the first hospital in the region. The modest cement block, 20-bed hospital they built became the sole source of medical treatment for the patients in Al Ain.

 

When the Kennedys arrived in 1960, the infant  and maternal mortality rates in Al Ain were extremely high. In addition, tuberculosis, malaria, and other diseases were very prevalent. The Kennedys and their team helped change this; Oasis Hospital became a place of renewal and new life. Oasis Hospital was the birthplace of His Highness Sheikh Kalifa binz Zayed al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, and other Abu Dhabi leadership.

In honor of the Kennedys, Oasis Hospital dedicated The Kennedy Center for New Life, a state-of-the-art birthing center.  The Kennedy Center provides a comfortable, private environment in which mothers can give birth.  The Center's labor and delivery services include fetal monitoring, epidural analgesia, and other methods of reducing pain during birth as well as facility for emergency C-section if this is required.

 

After birth, any baby requiring specialized care is monitored in our state-of-the-art nursery.  Staffed with experienced nurses and doctors this facility is capable of taking care of premature babies from 34weeks of gestation onwards.  The Nursery is equipped incubators and with phototherapy units.

 

The Kennedy Center for New Life welcomes approximately 3,000 babies into the world each year. Over the past 50 years Oasis Hospital has delivered nearly 90,000 children.
