Endoscopy is a non-surgical procedure that is used to examine the throat, stomach and digestive tract. The specialist general surgeons at Oasis have extensive experience in all types of endoscopy, and perform EGD, (endoscopy of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum), colonoscopy (endoscopy of the large intestine, the colon) and sigmoidoscopy (endoscopy of the end loop of the colon).

An endoscope is a flexible tube, about as thick as the little finger, with a light and a tiny camera, allowing a doctor to examine and diagnose a problem. If any abnormal tissue is found, biopsies are taken during the endoscopy. In the case of small benign polyps, this can even mean their complete removal, which means the problem itself is treated at the same time. An endoscopy may be used by your doctor to examine stomach pain, bleeding, and check for signs of colon cancer.

Oasis Hospital provides complete instructions for endoscopy patients, since they require certain preparations. In the case of a colonoscopy, this means among other things that the bowel should be adequately cleaned the day before by laxatives, which are prescribed by the surgeon.
